Litigation
While the scope and consequences of the current crisis may seem indistinct at the moment, one thing is clear: the fallout will almost certainly involve numerous government investigations and civil and possibly criminal litigation. Beleaguered companies may soon face simultaneous Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) subpoenas, congressional hearings and private class action suits by securities holders.
In responding to the complex situations created by the current crisis, Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP’s national litigation resources are hard to match. We offer criminal, civil and regulatory defense service across the spectrum of business litigation. Akin Gump’s litigators have broad and deep experience in both federal and state courts at the trial and appellate levels, as well as in arbitrations and other alternative dispute resolution proceedings.
Many of our lawyers previously served at the Department of Justice or in U.S. Attorneys’ offices representing the United States in criminal, civil, antitrust and appellate matters. Others served with the SEC, Federal Trade Commission and other federal regulatory agencies. The 400 litigators in Akin Gump’s national practice make up a department recognized by The American Lawyer as a finalist for its 2008 Litigation Department of the Year award.
